Subject
Noise heard from speakers (FM channel) when startup Windows.
Description
Loud noise is heard from the speakers when startup Windows and the noise
continues until TEST-SBP.EXE is executed or a warm reboot is encountered.
On the other hand, reducing the volume control at the FM channel of
SBPMIXER will reduce the noise but it will still presence at the audio port.
Solution/Action
The reason is that user uses the FM driver for SBP2 instead of SBP. As the
SBP uses the OPL2 chips and SBP2 uses OPL3 chip, and each of the driver
controls different OPL chips, it is therefore not right to use the FM driver for
SBP2 to drive the SBP. Doing so will result in the above mentioned noise
produced from the speakers. To identify whether user have used the incorrect/
correct drivers:
a. Examine the following file in the SYSTEM directory of Windows, the file
should correspond to their respective sound card:
Driver Card
SBPFM.DRV SBP
SBP2FM.DRV SBP2
b. SBFMDRV.COM (For DOS) under the respective SBP subdirectory,
c. Ensure the SBPFM.DRV file is reflected in the SYSTEM.INI file:
[drivers]
MIDI=sbpfm.drv
Reinstallation of the driver is required if the users' settings do not tally with the
above mentioned.
